[HowTo] Use iPod Touch and iPhone as storage drive

In general iPod users know that some iPod models can be used like an USB-Stick. You will even find a “HowTo” concerning this possibility of iPod usage on the official Apple support page.

In contrast, iPhone and iPod Touch cannot be used as a storage drive, or at least only by using apps from the iTunes Store in combination with third party software. Devices (iPhone and iTouch) with Jailbreak can now use USB Drive to serve as USB-Stick and won’t need further software from third party developers anymore.

You need:

“USB Drive” creates partitions on your iPhone or iPod Touch which can be used as free disk space. The app runs in default mode and needs to restart if you want to switch the mode.

The 3 available modes are:

  • Drive + iTunes: USB function and simultaneously useable with iTunes
  • Default: Not useable as storage drive
  • Drive only: Runs as storage drive, but not with iTunes

iPhone: Forcing an application to quit (firmware 3)

Issue

With the earlier versions of the iPhone firmware, you normally hold the HOME button (center button down) to force the current application to quit.

With the version 3 firmware, this is no longer possible because it activates the voice recognition.

Solution

  • Hold down the ON/OFF
  • And whe the screen is turning off, hold down the HOME button

How to make video with your iPhone 3G?


Intro

A new feature of the iPhone 3G S, is that you can record and edit videos directly on the iPhone.

  • Recording videos with a normal iPhone
    • It was possible to record movies with earlier versions of the iPhone ... with some changes to OS. You must jailbreak the iPhone to install software like Cycorder or Videorecorder. Beware though, the jailbreak is a violation of copyright.

Record a video

To start recording, simply touch the camera interface on the iPhone. You can shoot in portrait or panorama mode for your convenience. The white

balance is done automatically, and the iPhone record at a rate of30 frames per second, enough to publish your video on Youtube or Dailymotion.

Edit your movie

After recording your video, you can edit. but do not expect a powerful editing tool you can simply remove a sequence at the beginning and end of your movie. To edit a video, put it in play and tap your screen to display the tool and delete the images you want to see disappear.
